Louis Carles

Welcome Louis Carles, new Researcher at MycSA

A microbial ecologist in our research team

Louis CARLES has been recruited by the INRAE 'Microbiology of the Food Chain' department to work at MycSA on microbial interactions affecting mycotoxin contamination of cereals.
We let him introduce himself.
"Having followed a course in microbial ecology at the University of Pau and Pays de l'Adour, I quickly became interested in the study of interactions between microorganisms and their environment at different scales and using different techniques of microbiology, molecular biology and ecotoxicology.
I also studied these interactions in different environments. My second year internship consisted in studying the diversity and the metabolism of consortia and bacterial isolates from natural gas storage aquifers.
I then left the underground world to come back to the surface and study the interactions between microbial communities from agricultural soils and pesticides during my thesis work at the University of Clermont Auvergne.
Following my thesis work, I migrated to surface waters and became interested in microbial biofilms that develop on river beds. I characterized the biodegradation potential of glyphosate by these communities during my first Post-Doctoral position at the University of Clermont Auvergne and the impact of wastewater from wastewater treatment plants during my second Post-Doctoral position at the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag).
I therefore naturally continue my thematic journey aboard the "microbial ship" by integrating MycSA, with the firm intention of using my skills to better characterize the tripartite relationship between toxigenic fungal agents, mycotoxins and associated microbial communities."
